The image does shows guns that were voluntarily surrendered by their owners under a gun buy-back scheme that ran in Australia after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. [Link]

The guns in this image were voluntarily surrendered after the Port Arthur massacre. No mass shootings have occured in Australia ever since. [Link] [Link] Additionally, guns are still available for purchase in Australia, but residents must pass background checks first. [Link]

The guns weren't confiscated. But there was a threat of severe penalties after the 12 month amnesty if they didnt comply with the buy back program, so the notes stating they were voluntarily surrendered are as misleading as the tweet. Page 14-15 of the actual agreement: [Link]

It is highly misleading for the other notes to claim that the guns were surrendered voluntarily. Even this Vox article (which uses that very same image) describes it as a 'It was one of the largest mandatory gun buyback programs in recent history.' [Link]

The post is convincing that if citizens surrender guns there is no mass shooting while failing to provide direct and sufficient evidence for this correlation. Such post can be easily understood as brainwashing with intent. Mental health is widely more important than guns volume.

NNN this post expresses a personal opinion. And Australia has experienced mass shootings since the ban, the 2019 Darwin shooting that killed , the Osmington shooting that killed 6, and the Hunt family shootings. [Link]
