The study, linked in the article itself, included men aged 18 and 19 in the tally of “children”. This is misleading, as people aged 18 and 19 are considered adults. [Link]

Purely a semantic argument. If you want to try and argue that this makes a difference in Newsom's point then take it to the comments, not CN.

While the article states an increase in gun violence involving children (2021), according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the leading cause of child death in the USA for the same period is accidents (unintentional injuries). [Link]

NNN Claim is supported by statistics. More information in links. "For decades, auto accidents have been the leading cause of death among children, but in 2020 guns were the No. 1 cause, researchers say." Sources: [Link] [Link] [Link] [Link] [Link]

[Link] According to the CDC, for 2020 Ages 17 and under, guns are the second leading cause of death. That drops to 4th for 16 and under. It is also second leading cause in ages 18-19, which are not children. That CDC page doesn't have the 2021 data yet. This post is false.

This claim is supported by peer reviewed analysis in the New England Journal of Medicine using CDC data. "Since 2016, that gap has narrowed, and in 2020, firearm-related injuries became the leading cause of death in that age group" [Link]

Guns aren’t close to the #1 killer of kids. And the only way they get to say that is by counting 18 and 19 years as children and ignoring babies. Accidents significantly outnumber suicides and homicides combined. Link is 0-17 cause of death. [Link]

The claim that guns are the leading cause for children was only true if kids under 1 year are excluded and 18 and 19 year old adults are counted as kids. [Link] CDC leading cause of death by age: 0-1 Congenital 1-4 Accidents 5-9 Accidents 10-14 Accidents 15-19 Accidents CDC: [Link] [Link] [Link]
