The wrapping is made of cellophane which is derived from natural sources such as wood, while plastic wrap is made from oil. Unlike plastic, cellophane can't be recycled, but it is biodegradable, so it can be composted or sent to a landfill in the regular garbage. [Link][Link][Link] CURRENTLY_RATED_HELPFUL(37-0-4) Author

Plastic is petroleum-based. But this is probably a cellophane wrap, which is essentially glucose or cellulose based. Cellophane has its own environmental problems however. The wrapper could equally be made of biodegradable plastic. [Link] But even if it wasn't it would still represent a reduction in the use of plastic compared to a plastic straw in a plastic wrapper. NEEDS_MORE_RATINGS(1-0-0) Author
