This is misleading. This advert is shown in the UK. For countries which have high usage of coal and gas in generating their electricity, the carbon emissions from using electric cars are much higher, and in some cases actually exceed that of petrol and diesel vehicles. [Link]

The concept of energy mix is inapproriate. The elective power consumption of a ev (it could be a fossil driven vehicle) is responsible for the non-cut-out of the same amount of cole power. So as long as there is cole-fired powerplants the ev are charged by 100 % cole power. [Link]
