multiplication and division are done at the same time left to right so the proposed note is factually incorrect and the answer is 9

NNN, multiplication and division are on the same level therefore supposed to be done from left to right: 6/2*(1+2) 6/2*3 3*3 9

The problem here is the ambiguity of the expression, not PEMDAS itself. It is written such that those that read it literally will go "first /, and then * by ()", and others will assume "multiplication without the symbol implies everything is one grouped term, so * before /". [Link]

The answer is 1, because the 2(1 + 2) term includes implied multiplication, which is performed before non-implied multiplication and division. This could also be written as 6 ÷ [2 × (1 + 2)]. [Link]

The post is factually correct since according to PEMDAS - both multiplication AND division are on the same level - meaning which ever one comes first is done then. So dividing by 2 is done before multiplying by 3. The same rule is in effect with addition and subtraction.

NNN. Both 1 and 9 are correct, it depends on the interpretation you have of it. It's purposefully written in an ambiguous way for interaction baiting, but nothing worth putting on a note. Y'all have comment sections for that.

NNN. In math there is no such thing as two different answers. 2+2=4. It’s not 2+2=4 but sometimes on Friday it equals 6. Yes there might be different interpretations of the equation, but there is it only one correct answer

Note not needed. While implicit multiplication would be a valid action in any other situation, this scenario is about PEMDAS specifically, which does not include implicit multiplication. As such, the answer would be 9 under PEMDAS.

It cannot be one as 6÷2(1+2) is 6÷2(3) which can be written as 6÷2×3. And since multiplication and division have equal value it goes left to right. So 6÷2×3 is 3×3 which is 9. [Link] [Link]

Both 1 and 9 are correct. This problem is written in an ambiguous fashion. [Link]
