Mark does not have the ability to diagnose anyone with anything. Self-immolation isn’t motivated by mental illness, it’s an extreme form of non violent protest for political or religious reasons in order to raise awareness of the issue by becoming a martyr for the cause. [Link] [Link]

According to a police report, Bushnell "exhibited signs of mental distress" prior to setting himself on fire. Source: [Link]

This was an "extreme act of protest" (in Bushnell's words). There's no evidence it was caused by mental health issues of any kind. [Link] Although a police report ([Link] cites an unnamed third party saying he was "exhibiting signs of mental distress", it fails to specify what those are.

NNN This is clearly a personal opinion. People call each other mentally ill constantly here - in a variety of different ways. Considering Bushnell was raised Christian - very active family - and suicide is a sin in his religion, mental illness is a fair comment.

Suicide is something that only a mentally ill person can engage in. No mentally stable person kills themselves no matter how strong their politics
