WhatsApp is not exactly exporting your data to any random 3rd parties. It is merely creating a local backup on your phone itself. If you have turned on the cloud backup then it'll also backup your data to your Google Drive or iCloud. You can turn this off in the settings. [Link]

WhatsApp creates a local backup every night. Additionally, if enabled, the backup will be uploaded to Google Drive (on Android) or iCloud (on IOS). There is the option to E2EE encrypt the backup, which is not enabled by default. [Link]

This statement is misleading. WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption for messages, meaning only the sender and receiver can read them. While WhatsApp does collect some metadata (e.g., phone numbers, device information), it does not export user data every night. [Link]

Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Meta, clarified that WhatsApp doesn’t export your data to Meta. WhatsApp creates backups in iCloud or Google Drive which can be end-to-end encrypted. [Link]
