As a veterinarian myself (source: me DVM, PhD) multiple species have floating ribs including dogs, cats, humans (13) and goats (13-14 ribs). There are no paws or hooves based on location of stifles and elbows. Dogs regrettably are eaten in some cultures. Speculative at best. [Link]
