OP is factually correct. Henry Brown did in fact refuse to buy back his wife's freedom, after being offered by the slaveowner holding her. Brown's legacy is not one looked upon favorably by abolitionists, historic and contemporary. The politics of Brown's escape: [Link] Further: [Link]
