Trump is making two separate statements. The first is that he stopped wars, and the second is regarding France. He is not saying he stopped a war with France. His style of speech is hard to follow at times, but this post is intentionally trying to push a false narrative. [Link]

Dear Joyful River Sparrow, respectfully, this is exactly the "sanewashing" people are talking about. A candidate for the world’s top job should be able to express himself clearly. If he can’t -as is obvious here- trying to make his speech legible is the definition of sanewashing.

The post is incorrect. Trump did stop a trade war with France by threatening retaliatory tariffs on French goods, which forced French President Macron to suspend a tax on American tech giants. In return, Trump postponed the tariffs, effectively ending the trade war. [Link] [Link] [Link] [Link]

NNN: the proposed notes seek to correct/clarify Donald Trump’s own misleading claim which he made in the video. The post itself —pointing out Trump’s misleading confusion/conflation of “I stopped wars, I stopped a war with France” with “tariff war”— is not misleading.

Missing context. Trump is discussing a TRADE war with France. France had slapped news taxes on Facebook and Google, Trump stopped it with threat to tariff wine, cheese, and handbags. [Link]
