Th man in the photo is not a British man he is an Australian. Australia has been independent since 1901 and this was a practice in Western Australia by Australians. This has nothing to do with Britain the facts in this post are false. Australia has been independent since 1901. [Link]

The man in the photo is Australian, not British. [Link] 'Aborigines' is a racist and outdated term. The correct terms to use would be 'Aboriginals' (less preferred) or either 'First Nations' (preferred) or 'Indigenous' (acceptable). [Link]

The guardian article referenced states that the photo is from Wyndham prison, and shows a guard with criminals. Neck shackles were commonplace in 1901 prisons. The image is provocative implying systemic slavery of Australian First Nations, which is not supported by fact. [Link] [Link]

The post author references the man as British instead of Australian due to the fact that the indigenous people in the photo are the true natives to Australia, not the man who is at most a descendant of the British that were brought over with colonization.
