While this is one story, the origins of fish and chips are disputed. Some suggest the pairing started in 1863 in Oldham, others suggest the c.1860s in London. Most likely, fried fish had its origins from Jewish immigrants, and chips had Belgian and Northern English origins. [Link]

The CN by Whistler, whilst adding context & interesting then goes on to mention the origins of chips (presumably to disprove the OP's claim). However, the OP did not claim chips were of Jewish origin - only fried fish.

NN: Exceptional Moonlight Lorikeet’s note misses the fact that the OP claims that Malin opened the first fish *and chip* shop. So it is OK for the other note to mention chips. (It’s always OK to mention chips in the UK, btw.) [Link]
