The modern numeral system and algebra were heavily derived from ancient Indian (Hindu) numeral systems (particularly the Brahmi numerals). Hence the official term 'Hindu-Arabic numeral' or 'Indo-Arabic numeral'. Muslims neither invented algebra nor the numeral system. [Link]
