NNN, it is Musk’s opinion that The Boring Company could do it cheaper. The Jalopnik article never actually cites a source for the “stiffing”

Jalopnik and the author Andy Kalmowitz are know Elon Musk detractors and the article is completely fabricated and has no instance of Musk having any contract with a state or local government that was not honored. It is deliberately misleading and is the authors opinions.

1000X less would mean Boring Company could complete the project for $20 Billion. High speed rail tracks in Europe costs €25 million per km on average, therefore, 5000km would cost €125 billion ($97,995 billion) - not including other expenses like engineers & infrastructure. [Link]

NNN. The post only refers to the tunnel costing $20 trillion not the cost of any train tracks. Elon’s reference to the boring company, which is a tunnel company and not a train company, is clearly stating an opinion about the cost comparison for the tunnel itself.

The note stating EU trains cost xxx/KM are just proving the point. It shows how utterly incompetent government contractors are and how huge the amount of overcharging they do.
