According to Google Gemini it's actually a picture taken in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The Atacama Desert is one of the driest places on Earth, and its arid, rocky landscape bears a striking resemblance to the Martian surface.  [Link]

NNN. (For now) Google Gemini is not a reliable source, AI cannot be trusted as a source on community notes. A reverse image search doesn’t bring up anything, so there’s no evidence to support claims it was taken on earth. [Link]

Additional context - Elon Musk is known for being hyper-optimistic & often presenting far fetched ideas as 'prophecies' like "I'll put a man on Mars in 10 years", "Chess will be solved soon", "Neuralink in brain by 2020", "1M autonomous Tesla robotaxis by 2020". [Link] [Link] [Link] [Link]

It is not the Atacama Desert. Groovy Reef Crake found the correct source of the image. The image itself is cropped from a larger panorama made up of multiple images stitched together and colored as the human eye would see it, but there is nothing misleading in the OP. PIA26367 [Link]
