The so-called ‘black-hole’ left by the conservatives was never “hidden” from anyone. Both major parties knew that spending cuts, tax rises or higher borrowing were necessary after the election. At the time, both parties were accused of a ‘conspiracy of silence’ over this. [Link]

The Scottish government has also chosen, like Labour, to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment. The SNP will now means-test the benefit, just as Labour have done. This is a devolved area: the Scottish government could have kept the Winter Fuel payment. They chose not to. [Link]
