Truth is not democratic. It exists outside of what people think or feel is true even if they're "experts". If it was up to trusting the "goodwill" of "community judgers", then Galileo's tweets would have been marked as misleading and his posts would have been deboosted. [Link]

While not all of the US is on Twitter, and some voters may even be outside of the US, the concept of polling is to get a sample size and extrapolate from there. 3 million users w/ margin of error is a valid sample size to conclude a public opinion. [Link]
